Tribal College Journal<\/em> is launching a new creative writing column featuring award-winning student author Brianna Reed of the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA). The first of its kind, the new bi-monthly column will showcase Reed\u2019s rising talent as she continues to break boundaries and explore new horizons through her flash fiction and creative non-fiction.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reed is Navajo and a second-year student at IAIA. Her creative column will be called \u201cMoccasin Millennial: Candid Creations of life as a\u00a0Burque\u00f1o.\u201d Known for her bold, gritty, unflinching, yet honest writing, Reed will focus on stories about home and life in the urban wilds of Albuquerque, New Mexico, as she delves into the heartbreak and inspiration of everyday Burque\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reed is a four-time winner of TCJ Student<\/em>\u2019s annual creative writing contest, an unprecedented feat in the publication\u2019s 26-year history. She is also highly regarded by her peers and mentors alike. \u201cBrianna is a generous and thoughtful peer, a brave and creative learner, and a deeply committed practitioner of the writing craft,\u201d says Kim Parko, professor of creative writing at IAIA. \u201cShe brings a keen and insightful\u00a0perspective to her work and to the work of others.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bradley Shreve, editor of Tribal College Journal<\/em>, adds, \u201cI love Brianna\u2019s writing. She\u2019s a reflective observer who writes about things most of us ignore\u2014or want to forget.
