This couldn\u2019t be farther from the truth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsvrc.org\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/2018-12\/Serving%20Teen%20Survivors%20A%20Manual%20for%20Advocates.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NSVRC report, Serving Teen Survivors: A Manual for Advocates<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, youths who experience sexual violence are most likely to have been abused by a peer or someone they know.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your teen years are a time for figuring out who you are and what you enjoy, including your sexuality. Experimentation is common, sexual violence is not. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/strongheartshelpline.org\/abuse\/what-is-consent\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sex is not sex without consent.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Sexual violence is defined as any type of sexual activity or contact that you do not consent to.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>You may hear or encounter the following:<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b><i>\u201cBut we have to have sex, we are dating aren\u2019t we?\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Being pressured or coerced to give or receive any type of sexual act is not a part of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/strongheartshelpline.org\/abuse\/healthy-relationship-bill-of-rights\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">healthy relationship bill of rights<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. You have the right to personal sovereignty. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/strongheartshelpline.org\/abuse\/6-common-tactics-of-sexual-coercion\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You have the right to deny or accept any type of sexual activity.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b><i>\u201cYou snagged me last time, why is it different now?\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You have the right to say \u201cno\u201d at any time, for any reason. Sex without consent is rape. It doesn\u2019t matter if you said \u201cyes\u201d before, you are saying \u201cno\u201d now. PERIOD.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b><i>\u201cBut condoms don\u2019t feel right.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pressuring you to have sex without protection is sexual violence. You have the right to safe sex and the autonomy to control your reproductive rights. Another tactic of reproductive abuse can be coercing you to take or not take your birth control, hiding or breaking your birth control or coercing you to try for an unwanted pregnancy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b><i>All of the guys are grabbing girls at school, and everyone thinks it\u2019s funny<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sometimes people can get caught up in a fad or a trend that crosses boundaries. Even if other people don\u2019t see the problem with that, finding it funny or \u201ccute\u201d doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s okay. Touching another person without consent is sexual harassment. As <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7TYQSLfXJCw&#038;list=PLvLfi7yZ2zQFDrw_CPSK--KGt-Rq_O3qs&#038;index=77\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ask Auntie<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> says \u201cthis is not okay, and it is disgusting repulsive behavior.\u201d She suggests going to your school counselor or administration and explain the situation and why it is not okay.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Giving you alcohol or drugs\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Trying to lower your inhibitions by giving you alcohol or drugs is a common tactic for those who sexually assault others. Slipping something into your drink without your knowledge is a very scary reality that happens more often than it should. Stay safe, watch your drinks and stay with friends at parties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b><i>New friend request\/Unknown friends on social media<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Online dating is the new norm. Unfortunately, there are also predators online looking for their next victim. They can create fake accounts or use charming tactics to get you comfortable with them. Some predators use social media as a way to send or ask for sexual pictures. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/m.kidshealth.org\/AllChildrens\/en\/teens\/harassment.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is a form of sexual harassment.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Predators may also invite you to meet up then use the opportunity to sexually assault you. Stay safe when online dating, and always look out for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/strongheartshelpline.org\/abuse\/online-dating\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online dating red flags<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There is no excuse for sexual violence.
