Lakota Food Summit happening in August<\/strong><\/p>\n

RAPID CITY\u2014The Lakota Food Sovereignty Coalition will be hosting their Second Annual Lakota Food Summit coming up on August 24, 25 & 26th, 2021. This will be taking place at the Holiday Inn-Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City. The summit\u2019s opening day activities include a chef event with presentations and samples of decolonized foods and a social; this first day is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

The 25th and 26th are the official conference days, where there will be presentations on a variety of topics surrounding food sovereignty, local foods, and community wellness. Registration for the conference will be required; in advance at the Second Annual Lakota Food Summit Eventbrite. There will also be limited registration onsite. Conference registration includes all sessions, admission to the trade show and The Lakota Food Sovereignty Coalition will be providing snack foods in the morning and afternoons on the 25th and 26th.<\/p>\n

The summit will conclude with a buffalo meat banquet and closing ceremony. Tickets for the banquet and closing ceremony are optional and may be available for the friends and family of our attendees. Our target audience for this summit are members of the local communities and Lakota and other Indigenous people from across the nation. Through their attendance at this conference, attendees will gain a broader knowledge of Lakota foods, Indigenous culture and values, and food policies and sovereignty.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s First Annual Lakota Food Summit was a huge success! We had over 300 people attend; 11 different tribes were represented, and we were able to reach a broader audience from the news coverage of various media outlets. We hope that you can join us this year.<\/p>\n
