BROOKINGS\u00a0 \u2013 South Dakota State University will formally dedicate the newly American Indian Student Center Oct. 8 and cap the celebration with a 7:30 p.m. performance by Brul\u00e9, the world-renowned contemporary Native American new age\/world beat, at the Oscar Larson Theatre in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on campus.<\/p>\n

The performance that will celebrate the pageantry and unique messaging of Native American storytelling through dance and music. Tickets are now on sale at www.bruleinbrookings.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For 27 years, Brul\u00e9 has brought the sights, sounds and stories of the Native American rock opera concept initiated by founder and troupe leader, Paul LaRoche. The group is best known for thrilling audiences with a merger of cultural rock and theatrical instrumentations but with the emotional impact of their American Indian culture.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen SDSU President Barry Dunn suggested that Brul\u00e9 be invited as an element of the celebration of the American Indian Student Center, we were absolutely thrilled,\u201d said Lynn Von Eschen, director of the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. \u201cTheir full-scale theatrical performance concert is going to showcase the spectacular dancing, musical elements from Native American traditions, and we feel the theatre will be simply electric.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brul\u00e9\u2019s show consists of a five-piece rock ensemble, augmented with an array of traditional Native American instrumentation. Paired with the stunning steps of one of the top Native American dance troupes, their authenticity brings a multidimensional art form to this cultural rock opera. The musical journey of LaRoche adds an affecting story to audiences and has been well-documented in the bestselling biography, \u201cHidden Heritage.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brul\u00e9 is seen regularly on national Public Broadcasting Service affiliates. Its history-making concert, \u201cBrul\u00e9, Live at Mount Rushmore\u2014Concert for Reconciliation of the Cultures,\u201d has become the longest-running Native American concert special on national TV.<\/p>\n
