The event celebrates the diversity of Native American cultures in the community through dancing, singing and honoring the traditions of Indigenous ancestors. The legacy of enriching the local community through Native American traditions and cultural heritage grew with the establishment of the Indigenous Cultures Festival through a partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lied.us5.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=e8b6ba746e5813c3409ba8c26&#038;id=67dc96f069&#038;e=8931d0b349\">Lied Center of Kansas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 2022 event is taking place on\u00a0April 9 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lied Center of Kansas,\u00a0and it is free and open to the public. This year\u00a0marks the return of the event in-person, as it was canceled in 2020 and held virtually in 2021\u00a0due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>This daylong, family-friendly event welcomes the KU, Lawrence and surrounding communities to participate, share experiences, make connections and learn more about the traditions, cultures, history and contemporary topics relating to the Indigenous peoples of North America.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the day, there is\u00a0a <a href=\"https:\/\/lied.us5.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=e8b6ba746e5813c3409ba8c26&#038;id=9a1394ca7a&#038;e=8931d0b349\">full schedule<\/a>\u00a0for attendees to participate in interactive experiences, educational workshops and children\u2019s activities focused on Indigenous cultures and history, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Children\u2019s stories read by author Jimmy Beason, U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids, D.-Kansas, and State Rep. Christina Haswood, 10<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0District.<\/li>\n<li>Special presentations by Theresa Milk, Alex Red Corn, Robert Hicks Jr. and Jancita Warrington.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The powwow will be outside, with festival activities\u00a0both inside and outside the Lied Center.\u00a0Attendees planning on staying throughout the powwow are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
