Dr. Dawn Frank selected as new OLC President<\/strong><\/p>\n

KYLE \u2013 \u201cOn behalf of the Oglala Lakota College Board of Trustees, I am announcing that Dr. Dawn Frank was selected to be the new President of Oglala Lakota College,\u201d stated OLC Board President Dennis Brewer. \u201cDr. Frank\u2019s start date as the new President is July 18th\u201d, added Mr. Brewer.<\/p>\n

Dr. Frank is an Oglala Sioux Tribal member raised on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Her Lakota name is Ta Oyate Wiyankapi Win \u2013 Her People see her. Her mother is Sylvia Tobacco, and her father is Darrell Two Crow. Her maternal grandparents were Stephen \u201cPsin\u201d Tobacco and Caroline Catches- Tobacco. Her paternal grandparents were Justin \u201cJudson\u201d Two Crow and Anna \u201cAnnie\u201d Chief Eagle-Two Crow.<\/p>\n

She received her elementary and secondary education at Red Cloud Indian School. She obtained an Associate Degree in Human Services, a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Human Services, and a Master\u2019s Degree in Lakota Leadership with all of these degrees from Oglala Lakota College. She received her Doctorate from South Dakota State University in Biological Sciences.<\/p>\n

Dr. Frank has 17 years of proven Higher Education Administrative and Accreditation experience. She served as the Vice President of Instruction for Oglala Lakota College for the past nine years, 2013 to 2022. She also serves as OLC\u2019s Accreditation Liaison Officer to the Higher Learning Commission. From 2005 to 2013, she led the Graduate Studies Department. She has worked with the Oglala Sioux Tribe in various capacities in the Health Administration, Interim Executive Director, and research grants with prior experience at the Indian Health Services.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very pleased that the Board of Trustees has selected an experienced manager and extraordinary leader to replace me as the next President of Oglala Lakota College,\u201d retiring President Thomas Shortbull said.<\/p>\n

Dr. Frank has a solid foundation in the history and understanding of the Tribal College movement and the importance of tribal colleges to the Lakota People. She will continue strengthening the existing academic and non-academic programs and student support services while exploring new degree offerings at the bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s level and workforce skills in vocational education to meet the employment needs on and off the reservation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very impressed with Dr. Frank\u2019s credentials to be the next OLC President and her wealth of experience leading the College\u2019s Academic Division. Her experience and proven leadership skills will bring continuity and lead the college into the future\u201d, said Board President Dennis Brewer.<\/p>\n

Dr. Frank and her spouse Albert Frank, reside on the Pine Ridge Reservation with their children Portia Means, Anpo Jensen, Marilyn Frank, and Caroline Frank, with Son Gabriel Means living in Spearfish.<\/p>\n
