RAPID CITY \u2013 On Saturday, October 8th<\/sup> there will be an awareness walk on domestic violence starting at 9 am, beginning at the Monument Civic Center bandshell.<\/p>\n

Native Women\u2019s Society of the Great Plain\u2019s annual awareness walk will feature speakers Larry Swallow, Cora Whiting and Kevin Killer with awesome designed tshirts given out to participants.<\/p>\n

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, which is recognized nationally as month to promote the effects of domestic violence. October has been a time to acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims, including children who see the violence in their homes.<\/p>\n

NWSGP will also be offering a special women\u2019s traditional dance contest during the Black Hills Pow wow \u201cViolence Against Women is Not Traditional\u201d on Saturday also during supper break.<\/p>\n

Native Women\u2019s Society of Great Plains, Reclaiming Our Sacredness, is a coalition of domestic violence and\/or sexual assault programs committed to the reclamation of the sacred status of women. The members of 20 various tribes work to end domestic and sexual violence against Native women and their children. The Society works to support and strengthen sisterhood and local advocacy and program development efforts through culturally specific education, technical assistance training and resource implementation.<\/p>\n
