Lakota Lodge is being demolished in spite of opposition from many Rapid City Indian Community members.
\nRapid City Councilman Greg Strommen said they had received knowledge of a plan to also see the old Sioux San Hospital demolished and replaced by a possible memorial.
\nAll three modular units will be taken down including the Native Womens Building.
\nThe only buildings that will remain are the Barn with Historic Names Carved into the Bricks as well as the Boiler Room.
\nDue to the cost of repurposing the old Sioux San building would possibly reduce the current patient care budget at the Oyate Medical Center.
\nThere has been talk of a Coffee shop to be built in the space of the old hospital building. Also mention of a Memorial Garden in place of the old hospital. Many Native American residents of Rapid City would like to see the building be repurposed or possibly be turned into a Museum of Native American History. The building itself is a historic landmark in Rapid City which many of the local towns people believe should be kept for Historical Purposes. Some community members supporting the proposed resolution to preserve the building believe that once the building is demolished, a piece of History will be lost forever. (Photos By Christopher A.
