\"\"<\/a>Well, it has been eight years since Rapid City has had to search for a new mayor. Incumbent Steve Allender has decided to ride off into the sunset of retirement. Being the mayor of a large town has its challenges. Rapid City, like most cities in the United States, are experiencing changes and diversity. Rapid City is quickly becoming a melting pot of many different ethnic backgrounds. Tourists who pour into the area notice the clean air and blue skies along with sparkling lakes and decide this is their final destination.<\/p>\n

As a former Police Chief Mayor Allender already had a grip on what the City of Rapid needed. What were the Mayor\u2019s feelings at first on his new position? \u201cI fully anticipated being the Mayor would be the worst thing that could happen to me but it was the opposite,\u201d stated Mayor Steve Allender. People were asking me, \u201cwhat are you going to do after this? He \u00a0stated, \u201cNo plans, I am going to goof off and plan a Winter vacation. Being with my wife for forty-three years, she wouldn\u2019t listen to my \u2018blood and guts\u2019 stories. When I tried to tell them she said no thanks.\u201d However, she did get upset when she seen a post stating that Allender is having a $250 a plate dinner. \u201cI consider Rapid City my hometown,\u201d stated Allender. I was an Air Force baby that didn\u2019t want to stay in one place too long.<\/p>\n

On hand at the Mayor\u2019s fair well event was Mayor Elect Jason Salamun, Police Chief Don Hendricks and Coy Sasse of the Rapid City School District along with Lloyd Lacrouix from the Pennington County Commission.<\/p>\n

Allender ended his time on the podium with the note that in 2014 on his last day with the Police Department a lady grabbed him by the arm and stated,\u201d when you are talking on the news are talking to us and the matter is being handled.\u201d<\/p>\n
