LAME DEER, Mont. \u2013\u00a0 On April 11, 2025 the Food Sovereignty project set up in a parking lot near the Cheyenne Mini-mall in Lame Deer, MT.\u00a0 The mission was to give starter seed kits and seed potatoes to both people enrolled in their program and other folks who needed such supplies.\u00a0 Gardening time is fast approaching and it\u2019s time to start indoor seedlings. About a hundred people took advantage of the event, excited to get back home and start seedlings.<\/p>\n

The non-profit organization was founded by and operated by Lynette Two Bulls, Oglala who has lived at Northern Cheyenne for several years. The program has been in several years of operation at Northern Cheyenne, the mission to provide self-sufficiency and better health through gardening and use of other traditional foods.<\/p>\n

Pictured along with Two Bulls is Tom King, Jr., enrolled Northern Cheyenne tribal member just hired as the project Food Sovereignty Project Manager. Having attended Dartmouth, Chief Dull Knife Community College before graduating from the University of Montana with a double degree in Fine Arts and Business Finance, King is happy to be back home and involved with a grassroots community project. \u201cIt can help our people develop a healthier life style and empower them. I\u2019m excited about being involved\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
