The Health Insurance Marketplace’s open enrollment period for 2025 is November 1, 2025 to January 15, 2026<\/strong>. Open enrollment is a specific period of time each year when individuals can sign up for, change, or cancel their health insurance plan, add or remove dependents, or change coverage levels, whether it’s through their employer, Medicare, or the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace. Essentially, it’s the only time during the year when you can make significant adjustments to your health insurance coverage.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the open enrollment period, you can only enroll in or change plans if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, such as if 1) Your child is aging off CHIP<\/strong><\/em>; 2) You are getting married or divorced<\/em><\/strong>; 3) You are moving to a new home<\/em><\/strong>; 4) You are having a baby<\/em><\/strong>; 5) You are losing your Medicaid or CHIP<\/em><\/strong>; or 6) Because you are no longer eligible for Medicaid due to a change in your household income.<\/strong><\/em> In these instances individuals can request a Special Enrollment period by either logging in to their HealthCare.gov account<\/a> online, or by contacting the Marketplace Call Center at 1 (800) 318-2596<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otherwise if one misses the open enrollment period, they may have to wait until the next year to make changes to their health insurance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enrollment dates effect when insurance coverage starts. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enrollment by December 15<\/strong>th:\u00a0Coverage starts on January 1, 2026. Enrollment after December 15<\/strong>th:\u00a0Coverage starts on February 1, 2026\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can get help selecting a new health insurance plan if you need it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you need help selecting a plan for 2026, there are trained and certified individuals who can help you enroll in a Marketplace plan and are required to provide fair, impartial and accurate information. To set up a time to talk in-person, over the phone, or by email with one of these individuals, there is an online portal you can use to find one of these individuals in your area<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
