Koahnic Broadcast Corporation plays a unique and essential role in bringing Native voices and perspectives to the national conversation. This investment strengthens KBC\u2019s ability to tell stories that are too often missing from other media options, while expanding the reach of trusted programming across digital and broadcast platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced $3 million in grants to the Koahnic Broadcast Corporation (KBC) to expand the production and distribution of public media programming that elevates Native voices, stories and perspectives for audiences nationwide. The grants advance CPB\u2019s ongoing commitment to support trusted, community-based journalism and culturally rich content that reflects the breadth of the American experience.<\/p>\n

KBC, the nation\u2019s leading producer and distributor of Native-focused public media programming, will use the funds to significantly grow its broadcast and digital capacity. This investment will enable KBC to expand its team with the addition of a chief content officer, new digital producers, and a Native language producer, strengthening its ability to develop distinctive programming for radio, podcast and video platforms.<\/p>\n

CPB\u2019s investment will further enhance and expand KBC\u2019s flagship programs: Native America Calling (NAC) \u2014 the nationally syndicated live call-in show featuring conversations with Native leaders, experts, artists and community members; and National Native News (NNN) \u2014 the only daily national newscast covering Native and Indigenous issues across the United States.<\/p>\n

The grants will also support deeper collaboration with public media stations across the country, fostering a wider and more connected ecosystem for Native-produced content. The funding support will enable KBC to continue providing reliable, affordable and sustainable distribution of radio and internet content via Native Voice One (NV1) for an even greater number of stations and producers, ensuring content is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/p>\n

The Native Programming Fund builds on CPB\u2019s long-standing commitment to Tribal and Indigenous public media, which includes sustained investments in content, journalism, station infrastructure and capacity-building at Native-licensed and Native-serving public media organizations.<\/p>\n
