PIERRE \u2013 Two superintendents from South Dakota\u2019s rural school districts traveled to the state capital this week to advocate for their students and communities.<\/p>\n

Connie Kaltenbach, Superintendent of Oglala Lakota County School District, and Carol Galbraith, Superintendent of Bennett County School District, met with District 27 Representative Peri Pourier on February 4 to discuss critical education issues facing their districts.<\/p>\n

The meeting, held at the state capitol, brought together educational leaders who serve some of South Dakota\u2019s most geographically dispersed and economically challenged communities. Both districts face unique challenges common to rural areas, including teacher recruitment and retention, infrastructure needs, and ensuring equitable access to educational resources.<\/p>\n

Representative Pourier, who represents District 27, has been a vocal advocate for education funding and rural school support during her tenure in the legislature.
