RAPID CITY \u2013 The Oyate Health Center and the Indian Health Service remain ready to confront the COVID-19 virus. They are coordinating with tribal-partners, the CDC, the South Dakota Department of Health, as well as Monument Health and other area providers to limit the spread of the disease
\nTo protect the health of patients and caregivers the Sioux San will limit the number of entry points and visitors to the healthcare facility campus. This will help conserve vital personal protection equipment such as masks, gloves, and eye protection, which is in short supply worldwide.
\nThe hospital has established a number specifically for those who are experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 this number is 787-8904. The main phone number is (605) 355-2500.
\nFor the safety of your family and community please do not visit the clinic if you do not need to be there.
\nPatients who need to be seen should limit the number of additional visitors\/guests they may have with them. When obtaining healthcare at Sioux San, they will be limiting the number of additional people brought to the patient rooms.
\nThe Oyate Health Center will begin a screening clinic for testing of patients with suspected COVID-19 infection. The clinic is located in the southwest corner of the main hospital building with the entrance and exit label \u201cScreening Clinic\u201d.
\nAmong the criteria for testing: experiencing flu-like symptoms, having travel history or having been exposed to someone with confirmed COVID-19. If a patient is seriously ill and requires additional medical care to manage symptoms, they may be transferred to a higher level of service. At this time, all samples are being sent to the South Dakota Department of Health State Lab in Pierre for testing.
\nIn addition, the Oyate Health Center is launching a COVID-19 information line to connect patients with staff who can assess symptoms and work with providers to determine if testing is needed.<\/p>\n
