RF Buche is a 4th generation grocer. His great-grand father, Gus Buche started the company in 1905.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

PINE RIDGE \u2013 Amid the COVID-19 Coronavirus, local grocer, RF Buche will be delivering a little something extra to his customers in their Easter \u201cbasket\u201d.\u00a0 \u201cWe will be giving every customer (while supplies last) a fresh rose. It\u2019s our way of saying we care about you\u201d said RF Buche, owner of Buche Foods.\u00a0 \u201cAdditionally, we will be giving $20 through our app split between the week before Easter and the week of Easter.\u00a0 Times are a little tougher now for a lot of South Dakotans and this is one way we can stand beside our customers and help.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Buche Foods team has put in extra time to make sure their stores are sanitized and stocked to ensure their employees and customers are safe.\u00a0 They are in constant communication with many wholesalers working on sourcing products, product allocation, supply needs while dealing with margin compression and wholesaler price increases. Buche\u2019s management meets every day via phone conference to discuss previous day changes, listen to what their customers are saying, plan product deliveries, and discuss product shortages, price increases, wholesaler changes and new ideas that will keep their employees and customers safe.\u00a0 Chris McFayden, Buche Company operations manager and RF are in communication before the sun comes up and finish discussions long after the sun goes down.\u00a0 McFayden\u2019s role is gathering all information on what is going on with product shortages, allocations, new suppliers, etc. and then communicate that info to the managers.\u00a0 RF Buche just finished in person meetings at each of the company\u2019s 13 locations. \u201cMy number one job right now is making sure our people are informed and receive reassurance that things are going to be okay\u201d said RF Buche.\u00a0 \u201cThat\u2019s what I am doing on a daily basis.\u201d<\/p>\n

With regards to sanitation, the Buche team has been diligent in their efforts.\u00a0 \u201cWe are wiping down door handles, pin pads, check stands, bathrooms and everywhere throughout the day.\u201d\u00a0 All our high touch points are the focus of our cleaning.\u00a0 We are installing sneeze guards and social distancing floor graphics to keep our customers and our team safe\u201d said Buche.\u00a0 \u201cWe are going to come out of this sooner than later, and I want all of our customers and our team to be happy and healthy when we do!\u201d<\/p>\n

Buche Foods recently started curb side service and delivery for their customers.\u00a0 Each store has different times and days in which they are helping their customers with individual needs.\u00a0 Additionally, the stores are also offering the first hour of everyday for the elderly to shop.\u00a0 \u201cOur team has been awesome\u201d said Buche.\u00a0 \u201cNo matter what our customer\u2019s need, no matter what changes we have to deal with, our people have stepped up. During recent in-store meetings I just finished, I had to set an example and replace hugs and handshakes with a warm smile. Even though it was difficult for both the employee and I because we have a very close relationship, we have to be socially responsible.\u00a0\u00a0 Our entire Buche\u2019s team knows our customers and our communities need us right now. They know they are essential and we will get through this together!\u201d<\/p>\n

Price changes always have and always will be a result of supply and demand.\u00a0 With restaurant closings and change of operations, the food dollar has changed for customers which is creating some product supply issues and changes in pricing.\u00a0 \u201cWe are doing our best to keep costs and retails down.\u00a0 We are seeing cleaning products, paper products, toilet paper, eggs and meat prices especially ground beef all increase in price.\u00a0 Additionally, we are having a difficult time ordering a lot of these items so a dual problem.\u00a0 However, I think we are doing a good job of finding product in a lot of creative ways.\u00a0 For instance, because our grocery wholesaler had an allocation on eggs, we found a restaurant supplier to source the product.\u00a0 We bought eggs in 15 dozen tray pack cases.\u00a0 It\u2019s not conventional but we just cut the cases down, overwrapped the eggs and sold them as an 18 pack.\u00a0 It\u2019s not pretty but it\u2019s better than not having eggs for our customers.\u201d<\/p>\n

With pricing uncertainly, some grocers have discontinued their advertised prices and well as discontinued their temporary prices (TPRs) and deals.\u00a0 Not Buche Foods!\u00a0 \u201cWe are keeping our advertisement flyer and TPRs and also increased the number of digital coupons we are sending each week\u201d said RF.\u00a0 \u201cTimes are a little tougher right now, some people are scared. Our customers deserve a break and that\u2019s exactly what we are going to give them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Buche Company is made up of grocery stores and convenience stores along with a Subway, a hardware store and an auto parts store.\u00a0 They have approximately 285 employees.<\/p>\n
