Donovin Sprague to Present Lecture on the Battle of Greasy Grass
RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA: Donovin Sprague, university instructor, author and historian, will present a lecture, The Battle of Greasy Grass on June 25, from 2:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. This presentation will explore the historic Battle of Greasy Grass, popularly known as the Battle of Little Bighorn, from a Lakota perspective. Donovin will also discuss the new visitor center being constructed at the Little Bighorn National Battlefield National Monument, and the recent acquisition of land within the National Monument by Native American Tribes. The presentation is in conjunction with the Journey Museum and Learning Center and is free and open to the public.
Born and raised on the Cheyenne River Reservation, Donovin is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and a descendent of both Chief Hump and Crazy Horse. Donovin is currently a Professor of History at Sheridan College, Sheridan, Wyoming. He also conducts tours and has presented at major universities, museums, and cultural centers throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. He was awarded the 2015 Ziebach County Historian of the Year Award by the Ziebach County Historical Society. He is the author of 10 books, the most recent being Hump and Crazy Horse.
