RAPID CITY, SD—Mark your calendars for a fun day of ice skating for people of all abilities.

The City’s Disability Awareness and Accessibility Committee, in partnership with Main Street Square, is hosting the fourth annual All-Ability Ice Skating Day Saturday, February 8 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Square’s ice rink.

The event is free and open to the public with an emphasis on providing people with disabilities the opportunity to skate and learn to skate. The event will include appearances by Nugget and Rapid City Rush players and Black Hills Figure Skating Club members. Refreshments will be available at Alternative Fuel. Assistance will be provided for participants learning to skate. Temporary free parking passes for the period 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be available for event attendees and can be obtained from the Committee booth on-site.

“We are excited to host our fourth annual event. The All-Ability Skate Day is designed as a family fun event for people of all abilities,” said Committee Chairwoman Tamie Hopp. “There will be free skates, free parking, a warming station and adaptive equipment available. We are hoping to broker a deal with Mother Nature for nice weather this year.

“This is an all-inclusive event and we are again encouraging those with disabilities who want to skate or to learn to skate to come out and have a fun, great and memorable experience.”

The City’s Disability Awareness and Accessibility Committee is observing its 50th year as a standing volunteer citizen committee, having been established in 1975 with a mission to advance, support and promote equal inclusion status and well-being of persons with disabilities in all aspects of community life in Rapid City.
