Dusty Johnson supports racist tweets
SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota’s lone Congressman Dusty Johnson voted not to condemn President Trump’s tweets as racist in a vote on Tuesday.
Trump tweeted some controversial racist comments about democratic lawmakers who are women of color.
Trump said, “…Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”
Three of the four women were born in the United States. Four Republican Congressmen decided that this was a racist tweet and voted to condemn Trump’s tweets as racist.
Johnson told Native Sun News, “Like the President, I’ve vehemently disagreed with the far left members of the House on policy, but his inappropriate comments were the wrong way to communicate that disagreement. We need to focus on governing this country, and his tweets weren’t helpful. It is interesting and unfortunate that when Congresswoman Omar made clear anti-Semitic attacks, the Speaker could not bring herself to condemn those comments with the same type of resolution she brought forth about the president. That shows the motivation behind this resolution was political.”
Many Native American leaders concluded that Trump’s tweets were racist because in South Dakota, Johnson’s home state, Native Americans have heard this racist comment many times, “Why don’t you go back to the reservation.”
