Native American Hip Hop artist Supaman to perform
SPEARFISH – Montana based Native American Hip Hop Artist Supaman performing at the Matthews Opera House on Friday, January 17 as part of the current Subscription Series season. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for youth (18 and under) and college students.
As a member of the Apsaalooke Nation, Supaman makes his home on the Crow reservation in Montana. “Supaman” is Christian Takes Gun Parrish, a Native American dancer and innovative hip hop artist who has dedicated his life to empowering and spreading a message of hope, pride and resilience through his original art form. Supaman’s one of a kind presentation combines Native culture, comedy and urban hip hop culture which dazzles audiences and captivates listeners.
“We cannot wait to welcome Supaman to the Matthews’ stage,” said Darren Granaas, executive director at the Matthews. “Supaman is not only an incredible rapper and musician, but an inspiring communicator of indigenous issues.”
Granaas went on to add that Supaman will also take part in several community residencies in the days leading up to his concert.
“Having the ability to bring artists like Supaman into local schools is why we do what we do,” Granaas said. “It’s through ticket sales, donations, and the support of organizations like the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education that residencies like this are even possible.”
Supaman has been the recipient of the 2017 MTV VMA award for “Best Fight Against the System.” He is also a Nammy “Native American Music Award” winner, “North American Indigenous Image Award winner, and seven “Tunney Award winner. He was awarded The Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Award in Canada for best video and was voted MTV’s new Artist of the Week. His 2018 nominations brought him home awards for Best Hip Hop Album and Best Producer for the Indigenous Music Awards. His latest video titled “Prayer Loop Song” and “Why” both have gone viral and have received millions of views on YouTube and Facebook which has put him in high demand touring extensively throughout the U.S.A and internationally. He has also worked with Taboo from the multi-grammy award-winning group “Black Eyed Peas.”

The next event for The Matthews is the community theater comedy “Dearly Beloved.” Performances are February 7 – 8 & 14 – 15 at 7:30 p.m. and February 9 & 16 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 adults, $10 subscribers, and $5 youth & BHSU students.
