Let us fund your research

RAPID CITY –The Great Plains Tribal Leaders’ Health Board (GPTLHB) and the Great Plains Tribal Epidemiology Center is pleased to announce a funding opportunity through the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) to award mini-research project grants that contribute to the Public Health educational development of American Indian/Alaskan Native students.

GPTEC will fund awards at $5,000 per recipient. Up to (6) awards will be available for the 2020-2021 funding cycle. To be considered for funding, proposals must be submitted by Monday, November 30, 2020, 11:59 pm. The project period will run from the date of award through September 29, 2021.

 ELIGIBILITY

In order to be considered eligible for this funding opportunity, applicants must:

  • Be an enrolled full-time student (Undergrad/Graduate).
  • An enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe.
  • Have the ability and commitment to conduct research in one of the 17 tribal communities or 1 service area within the four-state Great Plains Area (ND, SD, NE, or IA).
  • Share the results of their work with GPTCLB, GPTEC, and the Tribe.

    PROJECT GUIDELINES:
  • Projects must address at least one known health disparity within one of the 17
    tribal communities or 1 service area within the four-state Great Plains Area (ND, SD, NE, or IA).
  • Projects must be completed with enough time for IRB/RRB approval to disseminate and must be presented by September 2021.
  • The final report should include:
    • Outline anticipated impacts and outcomes from the original proposal.
    • Provide a summary of the actual impacts emphasizing benefits to reducing health disparities and sustainability.
    • The contrast of desired and actual impacts and outcomes.
