FDA approves Pfizer vaccine
WASHINGTON, D.C.—On Monday August 23, the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Citing months of real-world evidence that side effects are rare, the Pfizer vaccine was given full approval. This has already paved the way for companies, universities and government offices to make vaccinations mandatory for employees or students.
While cases continue to rise in South Dakota, there are no apparent plans to implement vaccine—or even mask—mandates in schools or local government offices.
As of Wednesday August 25, the South Dakota Department of Health’s daily COVID-19 update showed 412 new confirmed cases in the state, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 114,048. 43 new probable cases were reported, which brings the total of probable cases to 15,818.
Currently in South Dakota, 3,416 cases are considered active, that number is up from 2,589 just Monday. There are 145 people hospitalized in South Dakota right now, with a total of 6,717 ever hospitalized. The total number of South Dakotans who have recovered from Covid-19 is 124,391. The total deaths recorded are 2,059.
