First People’s Fund: One-Year Artist Fellowships
Deadline: September 6, 2021
Through their Artists in Business Leadership and Cultural Capital Fellowships, First Peoples Fund partners with Native artists and culture bearers to strengthen their business skills and to ensure that art, culture and ancestral knowledge are passed from one generation to the next.
20 to 25 artists will be selected for the one-year fellowship programs. Fellows receive: a $5,000 – $10,000 project grant, technical support and professional training to start or grow an arts business and to further their important work in their communities.
Applicants must be an enrolled member or provide proof of lineal descendance of a U.S. federally recognized tribe, a state recognized tribe or be an Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian.

First Nations Development Institute: Tribal Stewardship in the Northern Great Plains Grants
Deadline: September 14, 2021
First Nations is accepting applications under its Stewarding Native Lands (SNL) program. First Nations expects to award 10 grants averaging $25,000 to $30,000 each to organizations in Native communities in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana, that are growing and/or expanding programs that support sustainable economic opportunities and preserve native grasslands.
Examples of allowable projects under this funding opportunity include but are not limited to natural resource/conservation management activities; conservation planning; grassland restoration; wildlife management and habitat restoration; bison revitalization; and sustainable economic development initiatives (i.e., sustainable tourism, youth conservation programs).

U.S. Department of Agriculture: Business and Industry CARES Act Program
Deadline: September 15, 2021
The USDA Rural Development’s Business & Industry (B&I) CARES Act Program is making available up to $1 billion in loan guarantees to help rural agriculture businesses meet their working capital needs.
These loan guarantees must be used as working capital to prevent, prepare for or respond to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. For the first time, agricultural producers may access this program if they are ineligible for financing from USDA’s Farm Service Agency.

First Nations Development Institute: Native Agriculture and Food Systems Scholarship

The Native Agriculture and Food Systems Scholarship program encourages more Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian college students to enter agriculture and food systems fields so that they can better assist their communities with their food systems efforts.
First Nations will award 20 to 25 $1,000 to $1,500 scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic school year to Native college students majoring in agriculture and agriculture-related fields, including but not limited to, agribusiness management, agri-science technologies, agronomy, animal husbandry, aquaponics, environmental studies, fisheries and wildlife, food production and safety, food-related policy and legislation, food science and technology, horticulture, irrigation science and sustainable agriculture or food systems.

Endangered Language Fund: Native Voices Endowment Grants
Deadline: October 1, 2021
Endangered Language Fund provides grants for eligible tribes and languages through the Native Voices Endowment: A Lewis & Clark Expedition Bicentennial Legacy. Grants through this program are available to members of the Native American tribes that came in contact with the Lewis and Clark Expedition between 1803-1806.
Grants are available for work on documentation and revitalization of the languages of these tribes. Applicants must be enrolled tribal members or employees of tribal colleges.

U.S. Economic Development Administration: Travel, Tourism & Outdoor Recreation Program

Through the Travel, Tourism & Outdoor Recreation program, EDA is focused on accelerating the recovery of communities that rely on the travel, tourism and outdoor recreation sectors.
Destination organizations, nonprofits, state or local governments, economic development districts (EDDs), territories and tribal governments and institutions of higher education can apply for these funds. $750 million of EDA’s American Rescue Plan funds are allocated to support the following efforts, including
- Indigenous Communities Challenge ($100 million): Funds are competitively awarded to tribal governments and nonprofit organizations that primarily serve indigenous communities for technical assistance, planning, workforce development, entrepreneurship, and public works and infrastructure projects
- Competitive Tourism Grants ($240 million): Funds competitively awarded to local governments and nonprofit organizations in regions most impacted by job loss in the travel, tourism and outdoor recreation sectors—for projects that promote economic resilience and development and align with an EDA Investment Priority.
- Build Back Better Regional Challenge ($1 billion): Funds competitively awarded to regional coalitions for projects that grow new regional industry clusters or scale existing ones through planning, infrastructure, innovation and entrepreneurship, workforce development and financing—excluding travel and tourism-related projects.

Through the Indigenous Communities program, EDA is allocating $100 million in American Rescue Plan funding specifically for Indigenous communities, which were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
This program is designed to support the needs of Tribal Governments and Indigenous communities. EDA will support these important partners to develop and execute economic development projects that they need to recover from the pandemic and build economies for the future.
A wide range of technical, planning, workforce development, entrepreneurship, and public works and infrastructure projects are eligible for funding under this program.

Potlatch Fund for Native Communities Resilience Project

The Potlatch Fund aims to build on the Native tradition of giving by increasing philanthropy for and among Tribal communities through grants and empowering community leaders with the tools they need to succeed through training. To that end, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on Native communities, the Potlatch Resiliency Fund will support resiliency actions that create hope, social connection, adaption, flexibility and purpose. Grants of $10,000 and $15,000 will be awarded in support of general operating funds, projects and artists.
