Native American Day parade canceled
RAPID CITY—It was announced this week that the Native American Day parade will be canceled. Bruce Long Fox, Executive Director for Rural America Initiatives and Parade Committee Chairman, made this statement:
“Parade committee – Thanks for giving of your time and effort to organize the Native American Day parade. Hopefully we can do it again next year. I have decided to cancel the parade for this year. Upon advice from Dr. Harlow, clinical director at Sioux San and senior medical staff at Monument Health, I have decided it is too risky to gather in a large group. The Delta variant and the Covid-19 viruses pose serious threats to our health, even if we are vaccinated. Because the Black Hills powwow has decided to cancel again this year, our decision to cancel will be better understood. Please spread the word, stay safe and healthy. Pilamaya Pelo! Mitakuyoyasin!”
