Phoenix Indian Center to host Art Market
PHOENIX, AZ – To commemorate its 75th anniversary, Phoenix Indian Center will host an Indigenous Art Market & Community Fashion Showcase in central Phoenix on Saturday, March 5. Attendees can enjoy art, food, fashion, and DJ music at the market from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and then catch an evening fashion show featuring traditional and contemporary designs from community members. The fashion show will also present a formal showcase with the work of Rebekah Jarvey, Wilfred Jumbo, Joanne Miles-Long, and Sage Mountainflower.
“This is a milestone year for Phoenix Indian Center. We are celebrating 75 years of supporting the urban Native American community in Maricopa County,” said Jolyana Begay-Kroupa, interim CEO. “Since the Center’s inception in 1947, we have been passionate about preserving our traditions and culture. The theme of the fashion showcase is ‘Celebrating Our History, Honoring the People,’ and that is an excellent representation of what we have been able to accomplish throughout our years of service to the community.”
Today, well over 125,000 American Indian people reside off-reservation in Maricopa County. Phoenix Indian Center provides a safe, supportive environment and programs for community engagement and cultural revitalization.
The Indigenous Art Market also celebrates the 50th anniversary of Native American Connections, an organization focused on improving the lives of individuals and families through Native American culturally appropriate behavioral health, affordable housing, and community development serviced. Both organizations play a vital role in supporting Indigenous people in Phoenix, and keep them connected to each other and their traditions.
