The Cloud Horse Art Institute, a Lakota 501c3, with its campus located in Kyle SD, is offering a wide range of art programs this summer. Here is a list of our offerings.

Cloud Horse Arts Institution, with a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts is teaming up with Dan Snethen for the dramatic production of Charlotte’s Web. This is a play was adapted by Joseph Robinette based on the book by E.B. White. It is a Dramatic Publishing Publication, and will be directed by Dan Snethen. This production will have a Lakota flare.

I am looking for 6-30+ individuals of all ages interested in being involved with community theatre.  I also need actors and actresses, Production crew,

Folks interested in building costumes, and participants interested in Set design and props.  

We have lots of opportunity for extras…especially for young children interested in being spiderlings.

Auditions will be at Cloud Horse Arts Institution in Kyle. (Old Head-Start Building East of Kyle Post Office…light blue building)

Casting will be held on June 29 & 30 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

July 1 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Call backs will be on July 2 10:00 a.m.

4th Reel Jobs Summer Film School July 17 – 28.

Organized by the same folks who produced the feature Romantic Comedy, “Mallard’s Road” and award winning documentary “Who Will Bury the Dead?”  (Both on Amazon Prime & Tubi) will offer Professional Editing and Story Skills in the production of both Narrative (Story based) and Documentary Films.

Instructors for the School include Ryan Polomski. Ryan is a documentary and television director, producer, and editor living in Los Angeles, CA. His first feature documentary.

State vs. Reed, won an Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival before being broadcast on Texas PBS stations, raising widespread awareness of the highly controversial death sentence of Rodney Reed. His second feature, Raymond Lewis: L.A. Legend won “Best Documentary” at the San Pedro Film Festival, and was recently named a Finalist for the prestigious 2022 Library of Congress Lavine/Ken
Burns Prize for Film. Polomski received his MFA in Film Production from the University of Texas, Austin, and his BA from the University of Montana, Missoula. He is currently teaching film and producing at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills.  

Katharyn Grant, Writer, Director, Producer will lead Acting for Film July 17-19 Katharyn directed and starred in the feature length film The One Who Loves You, which will be released on streaming platforms under the title Carolina Blue. Her feature won 10 awards at national film festivals including Best Director and Best Feature Film at Beaufort International Film Festival, Best Director at SENE (Southeast New England Film Festival), and Best Feature Film at Indie Gathering. 

She won Best Actor at Bare Bones International Film Festival for her lead acting role, and honorable mention for Breakthrough Achievement from Twin Cities Film Festival in Minneapolis. 

Ms. Grant has performed in a variety of theater and film productions and toured with the DOD, acting in comedic shows in Japan, Europe, England and Guam. 

When she teaches acting Katharyn puts into practice what she has learned from her longtime mentor, Jack Waltzer, who portrayed himself as Dustin Hoffman’s acting teacher in the film Tootsie. Jack studied with some of the greatest acting teachers including Lee Strasburg, Utah Hagan, Stella Adler, and the Miesner technique via Sydney Pollack, thus combining these approaches in his own work with actors, in order to help them create spontaneous, dynamic and truthful performances. Katharyn looks forward to sharing this way of working with you, also. She truly enjoys helping actors reach their highest potential!

This is an amazing opportunity to begin you acting career on solid advice and practice for folks of all ages. Rez Dogs is creating numerous production jobs in Oklahoma and spin offs are in development.

Dan Snethen, Drama Director at Little Wound High for 28 years, Director and Producer of Mallards Road and Reel Jobs Grad. Dan will teach Production and Story, working with a short story script by Pulitzer Nominee and NEA Fellow, Mark St. Pierre. Mark will serve as School Director. 

We are looking to give a start to future filmmakers from Lakota and Dakota communities including Rapid City. Please contact us early if you want to be in this school. Ages for this school are 14 with parental permission and everyone else.

There will be a stipend paid at the completion of the film school. All food and lodging is provided for folks from other reservations. Gas receipts will also be covered.
