Native POP returns to Main Street Square

RAPID CITY – Native POP: People of the Plains is excited to announce the 2023 art market and cultural celebration for the two-day art show to celebrate the market’s eleventh year at Main Street Square. This juried art show and cultural celebration is a free annual event in the heart of downtown Rapid City, and will take place July 7 – 9, 2023.

Native POP begins Friday evening at the Journey Museum with the premier juried art show. This is where art enthusiasts will have the first opportunity to get a glimpse of the immaculate art pieces that represent the talent at this art market.

Featured Northern Plains’ artists include Della Big Hair, Marshall Burnette, Gerald Cournoyer, Norma Dupris, Tani Gordon, Billy J. Janis, RyKelle Kemp, Jared Lanz, Bonnie LeBeau, Ryia LeBeau, Gaylen LaRoche, Rose Neuharth, Taylor Neuharth, Michael Patton, Joe Pulliam, Martin Red Bear, Nelda Schrupp, Adrianne Shabi, Donovan Sprague, Sheldon Starr, Eunice Straighthead, Travis Tremblay, Angela Twiss, Dustin Twiss, Andrea Two Bulls, Dalaena Uses Knife, Matthew Uses Knife, Jennifer White and Gerald YellowHawk.

The two-day art market will also feature an Indigenous fashion show with stunning local models, a music showcase, and cultural performances. The Saturday fashion show will feature Designs by Della from the Crow Nation, Apsaalooke designer, Lady Pompadour and famous local Cheyenne River Sioux designer, Hopa Designs by Darla Takestheknife.

Saturday, July 8 Native POP is hosting a community wide FREE JAM SESSION and reception at Murphy’s Pub and Grill on the patio from 6:00PM-9:00PM with local legends: Scotti Clifford, Waylon Mendoza, Johnny Hastings and The Briggs Brothers! Come mingle with your friends, meet the artists, grab some food, and celebrate with music!

Cultural performances will include a horse nation presentation by Red Horse Healing, youth poetry slam, culture bearer’s, and educational powwow performances, open mic, and informational booths of local area programs.

Native POP is a volunteer-led project. The Board of Director’s partners with Main Street Square for event coordination. Over the last ten years, Native POP’s Board of Directors includes strong community leaders who bring considerable knowledge and influence to the table. They are Native and non-Native, artists and arts professionals, and span a wide range of ages. This diverse leadership results in planning and implementation that is inclusive of large portions of the Rapid City area.
