Star quilt fundraiser to help feed our houseless relatives
RAPID CITY – With the safety of our houseless relatives at the forefront after the closing of the Hope Center in Rapid City, several community organizations have stepped up to fill the void.
One of those groups is the Community Organization for Unified Power (COUP). To help raise funds to meet their goal in providing meals to feed houseless relatives, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal member Chantelle Blue Arm and COUP council board member has donated one of her signature award-winning quilts. Tickets are currently being sold via Chantelle Blue Arm’s Facebook page for a chance to win this one of a kind star quilt.
“All proceeds will go towards supporting the Community Organization for Unified Power (COUP) Council, a 501c3 organization, in providing warm meals to our beloved houseless relatives here in Rapid City, South Dakota through these freezing winter months!! Our council’s mission is ‘to return Lakota culture, build collective power and bring healing and justice to the heart of the Oceti Sakowin territory.’ Please consider purchasing tickets (or making a tax-deductible donation!) to support us in taking care of our Lakota relatives, especially our most vulnerable!!,” writes Blue Arm on her Facebook page.
“I’m a current board member of the COUP Council. I created this star quilt to donate to our organization (thank you to Bonnie Lebeaux Quilts for quilting this star quilt!) I’m only able to create 1-2 star quilts a year and I want my art to go towards a worthy cause!!”
This starquilt is valued at $600. $10/ticket, 3 tickets for $20.
