Guest Ranch to host summertime cowboy poetry events

INTERIOR – Badlands Heritage Guest Ranch is pleased to announce the summer’s first community campfire series happening the last three Fridays of June. This series of events features cowboy poetry performances from renowned artists Sherl Cederburg and Pegie Douglas.

To kick off the season, Sherl and Pegie will join forces on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 7:30pm to deliver their “Hearts of the Hills” performance. The duo will present a musical glimpse of the Black Hills and the West. They will have you sitting around the campfire, riding the hills, and taking a walk back through history, stirred by their stories in song and poetry.

The following week, attendees will be entertained as they learn about one of South Dakota’s noted historic figures. On Friday, June 21, 2024, at 7:30pm, Pegie will perform, “The Life & Music of Badger Clark, South Dakota’s First Poet Laureate,” an hour-long program narrating the life of Badger Clark interspersed with many of his poems set to music.

To conclude the cowboy poetry series, Sherl will return for her solo performance, “Born to Ponder,” which includes her original poetry themed around horses, Old West, New West, family, country, nature, prairie life, and faith. This performance, scheduled for Friday, June 28, 2024, at 7:30pm, will make you make you laugh, cry, or at least think a little.

All events are free and open to the public and will take place at Badlands Heritage Guest Ranch in Interior, South Dakota – just 10 minutes away from the Badlands National Park headquarters.
