CAPUTA — Sacred Storm Buffalo proudly announces the launch of its new Wambli Ska Ranch, celebrating a monumental milestone with the arrival of the first buffalo calves and horses from Tribal lands. This marks a significant step forward in Sacred Storm’s mission to empower young Native Americans through cultural preservation, food sovereignty, and economic development.

Seven months into the implementation of its innovative meat processing apprenticeship, community economic development, and cultural education program, Sacred Storm has made transformative strides in addressing the urgent needs of Native American communities.

A Holistic Approach to Empowerment

The Sacred Storm Buffalo initiative seamlessly blends hands-on training in meat processing with cultural education deeply rooted in traditional Native practices. By fostering workforce development and supporting the entire buffalo industry— from caretaking to processing—the program equips participants with essential technical skills while empowering them to reconnect with their heritage. This dual approach not only prepares individuals for leadership roles within their communities but also cultivates a sense of purpose and cultural pride.

At its core, the program champions the revitalization of food sovereignty, ensuring access to healthful, traditional food sources while addressing the systemic challenges faced by Native youth. More than just job creation, it fosters self-determination and resilience, instilling confidence, identity, and a profound sense of belonging in each participant. By bridging the past with future opportunities, Sacred Storm Buffalo is building a foundation for a thriving, culturally grounded workforce.

A Growing Network and Sustainable Impact

In just six months, Sacred Storm has successfully launched a Native-owned buffalo processing plant and mobile harvest unit, creating job opportunities and stimulating the local economy. The team is working with buffalo ranchers on the Pine Ridge Reservation and beyond, expanding the supply of buffalo meat and enhancing local market access.

A Beacon of Progress

The launch of Wambli Ska Ranch represents the culmination of unwavering dedication and collaboration. The ranch will serve as a hub for education, cultural revitalization, and economic empowerment, bringing together young Native leaders, local ranchers, and strategic partners.

“With the arrival of our first buffalo calves and horses, we honor our heritage while building a path toward a resilient and self-determined future,” said changemaker Chris White Eagle, Executive Director of Sacred Storm Buffalo. “Wambli Ska Ranch is more than a project—it’s a testament to the power of unity, tradition, and the promise of tomorrow. As we look to the future, this small acreage is a next step in building a future that will grow with the self-determination of our Warriors.”

Supported by NDN Collective, the Vadon Foundation and other key partners, Sacred Storm Buffalo is poised to create lasting change in Native American communities. Through continued investment, strategic collaborations, and an unyielding commitment to cultural integrity, Sacred Storm is proving that culturally grounded initiatives can drive meaningful progress.
