SDSU Extension Crop Hour 2026 webinars start in January

BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University Extension’s Crop Hour webinar series for 2026 will return in January.

Crop Hour provides producers and industry professionals with information to navigate the challenges and opportunities of farming in South Dakota. People can participate live via Zoom or watch the recorded presentations on YouTube.

The series will start on Jan. 6, 2026, with webinars from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. CST every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until Feb. 26, 2026. They are free to attend. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. To register, visit extension.sdstate.edu/events and search “crop hour”.

Continuing education credits (CEUs) are offered for Certified Crop Advisers who attend the webinars. Up to 24 credits can be purchased for the whole series for $200, or a single session for $30. Certified Crop Advisers will receive a link at the end of each webinar to complete payment.

“Crop Hour is a great way for producers to utilize time in the off-season to learn more, plan for next year, and be able to do so in their own space,” said Sara Bauder, SDSU Extension Forage Field Specialist. “The information is tailored to the environment in this region, and local speakers can give feedback and answer questions in a live webinar setting.”

Entering its sixth year, the Crop Hour presentations focus on a topic each week, ranging from soil health to specific crop management guidelines. Managing herbicide resistant weeds on a budget will likely continue to be one of the biggest issues in crops for the coming year.

Weekly topics are:
Jan. 6-8: Weed management
Jan. 13-15: Soils and water
Jan. 20-22: Insect pest management Jan. 27-29: Plant pathology
Feb. 3-5: Horticulture
Feb. 10-12: Precision agriculture
Feb. 17-19: Markets, economics and climate
Feb. 24-26: Soil nutrient management
