Golden West Telecommunications Cooperative members will elect five directors to its board of directors at the organization’s 73rd Annual Meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Wall Community Center in Wall, SD.

The terms of four existing directors on the cooperative’s 15-member board will expire. Additionally, the seat left vacant by John Knutson’s passing will also be filled. Members residing in the districts below who qualify under the Bylaws of the Cooperative, including any incumbent, may run according to the terms indicated.

• DISTRICT 1 – The term of incumbent director Jade Hlavka of Howes will expire to be succeeded by a four-year term.

• DISTRICT 2 – A director will be elected to fill the one year remaining of the term left vacant by the passing of John Knutson of rural Philip. This term will expire and be open for election to a four-year term in 2026.

• DISTRICT 4 – The term of incumbent director Dave Assman of Mission will expire to be succeeded by a four-year term.

• DISTRICT 6 – The term of incumbent director Murdock Arthur of Interior will expire to be succeeded by a four-year term.

• DISTRICT 7 – The term of incumbent director Bart Birkeland of Gregory will expire to be succeeded by a four-year term.

How to run for a director term

Those interested in running for a term must circulate and return an official nominating petition. Petitions can be returned by mail to Golden West Telecommunications, P.O. Box 411, Wall, SD 57790.

All petitions must be filed or postmarked on or before Sunday, June 29, 2025. Since this falls on a weekend, filing or postmarking early is recommended to ensure the deadline is met. Petitions filed or postmarked on June 30, 2025, will not be accepted.

A special notice further detailing the nominating process was mailed to each member in the affected districts. To request a petition packet, call Golden West at 1-855-888- 7777, option 3, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Petition packets include the official nominating petition, a map of the director districts, and information explaining the responsibilities of a board member.

Vote online, by mail, in person

Voting in director elections this year can again be done in one of three ways: online in advance of the annual meeting, by mail in advance of the annual meeting, and in person at the annual meeting on Sept. 27 in Wall.

Letters mailed to members mid-August will explain how to vote online or request a paper ballot for mail-in voting. Those who do not vote in advance – and who are authorized to vote – may vote in person at the annual meeting. Non-individual entities must request and complete an Authorization to Vote form in advance for in-person voting.
