RAPID CITY – In an unprecedented act of collective momentum, He Sapa Otipi announces the official launch of its capital campaign, fortified by the recent confirmation of a $9 million dollar award from the City of Rapid City’s Vision Fund. This monumental investment catalyzes the long-awaited realization of a permanent Indigenous-hosted community center—a sanctuary of cultural preservation, intergenerational empowerment, and self-determined progress.

“This is not merely a financial endorsement; it is an affirmation of our rightful presence and a testament to the enduring strength of our people,” said He Sapa Otipi Executive Director Cante Heart. “For generations, we have navigated imposed erasure and systemic barriers. Today, we shift from endurance to resurgence.”

The awarded funds will be exclusively allocated toward the construction of this landmark institution, ensuring the fulfillment of a vision meticulously articulated by He Sapa Otipi. Now, with land acquisition in its final stages and architectural designs underway, the City stands ready to finalize the funding agreement.

While this $9 million dollar award is an extraordinary milestone, the realization of this endeavor demands continued collaboration and investment. The capital campaign aims to build upon this foundation, securing additional financial partnerships to bring the project to full fruition.

“This initiative is not merely about erecting a building—it is about establishing a lasting legacy,” emphasized staff member, Ailine Maea. “This center represents the endurance, wisdom, and collective strength of our people. We are building on the shoulders of our ancestors.”

He Sapa Otipi invites partners, stakeholders, and all members of the community to join in this historic undertaking. The moment is now—together, we are shaping the future.
