Library debuts Flood of ’72 podcast
RAPID CITY – In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Flood, Rapid City Public Library will present a new podcast series “Flood of ’72, 50 Years Later.” With the first episode debuting Friday, April 1, we’ll tell stories of survival and the resilience of a community forced to rebuild after a tragic event that claimed 238 lives. Get firsthand accounts of neighbors and strangers coming together to withstand an unprecedented natural disaster. Gathered from hours of oral histories, discover new details described by the people that lived through one of the most significant events in our local history.
Tune in every three weeks for a new episode with the last one airing June 3. Podcast episodes can be found at Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Stitcher or the library’s website.
Meticulously researched, Rapid City Public Library has been collecting written memories, photos, documents, books, studies, and reports related to the flood for more than a decade. Their research and preservation efforts have been digitized and preserved for future generations and can be accessed through the library’s website.
