Oglala Lakota College Board of Trustees/Local Board election results

KYLE – Oglala Lakota College held Board of Trustees elections on November 5, 2024 in conjunction with the Oglala Sioux Tribal General Election.

Elections were held for Board of Trustee positions for Pahin Sinte College Center, Pejuta Haka College

Center, and LaCreek College Center. There were Five Board of Trustees positions that were up for reelection for 4-year terms.

The available Board of Trustees positions for re-election in each Pine Ridge Reservation political district included: LaCreek, Pahin Sinte, Wakpamni, Oglala, and Medicine Root.

The Official election results are as follows: LaCreek District Board of Trustees candidates were Stephanie Louden-Lessert, with 53 votes and Cecilia Fire Thunder, with 39 votes. Stephanie Louden-Lessert will be seated to a 4-year term as the Board of Trustees member for LaCreek District. Pejuta Haka District Board of Trustees candidates were Kelsey Brave Eagle, with 154 votes, Denise King-Red Owl, with 104 votes and Emma Featherman

Sam, with 70 votes. Kelsey Brave Eagle will be seated to a 4-year term as the Board of Trustee member for the Medicine Root District. The Pahin Sinte District candidates were Gina Good Crow with 104 votes, Rhonda Two Eagle with 63 votes and Linda Herzberg with 41 votes. Gina Good Crow will be seated to a 4-year term as the Board of Trustee member for the Pahin Sinte District.

Sophia Conroy ran unopposed for the Board of Trustees in Wakpamni District. Sophia Conroy will be seated to a 4-year term by acclamation. All Board of Trustee member’s will be seated at the Board of Trustees meeting in December.

Oglala Lakota College held elections for 17 local board positions. The Oglala Lakota College Election

Committee certified 13 local board candidates. The following candidates will be seated by acclamation:

Charles Parisian – Pahin Sinte College Center Local Board

Dorothy Tyon – Pine Ridge College Center Local board

Martyna White Hawk – Wounded Knee College Center Local Board

Paul Plume – Wounded Knee College Center Local Board

Sarah Clifford – LaCreek College Center Local Board

Edson Briggs – East Wakpamni College Center Local Board

Joni Salomon – Pass Creek College Center Local Board

Richie Meyers – Eagle Nest College Center Local Board

Sarah Ten Fingers – Oglala College Center Local Board

Melissa Blacksmith – Oglala College Center Local Board

There were no Local board candidates for the following local board positions: two (2) positions at Pass Creek College Center, one (1) position at East Wakpamni College Center, two (2) positions at Eagle Nest College Center, one (1) position at Oglala College Center and one (1) position at Pine Ridge College Center. Individuals interested in the capacity of serving on one of the vacant local board positions listed above must submit a letter of intent to their local College Center. The Local Board will make appointments from those who have submitted letters of intent and reside in the district of which they intend to apply. Letters of Intent are only seated until the next election.

The Oglala Lakota College Election Committee has decided to have a Special Election for the local board position at Pejuta Haka College Center due to an election irregularity that affected the outcome of the election. A Special Election will be held on November 19th from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm at the Pejuta Haka College Center in Kyle, SD.

All Board of Trustees and Local Board members are subject to Alcohol and Substance Abuse tests as per OLC policy (PPM 62-120).

Oglala Lakota College Election Committee members: Jonnie Clifford (455-6047), Cindy Iron Cloud (455-6038), and Katelin Janis (455-6022).
