WAVI to host Beach Ball Gala on April 11 to support survivors across the Black Hills
RAPID CITY — Working Against Violence, Inc. (WAVI) will host its annual Beach Ball Gala on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Lacroix Hall at The Monument, bringing together community members, advocates, and supporters to raise funds for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault throughout the Black Hills.
The evening begins with check in and cocktails at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner, a program, and both live and online auctions at 7:00 p.m. The gala is one of WAVI’s most important fundraising events, helping sustain the organization’s emergency shelter and year round services for individuals and families escaping violence.
According to WAVI, the need for services continues to grow. In 2025, the organization served 2,865 survivors, including 1,077 people who required emergency shelter. WAVI provides a 24 hour crisis line, safe housing, advocacy, case management, and in shelter therapy, ensuring survivors have access to safety and support at any hour.
“Events like the Beach Ball Gala ensure we can continue to be there for survivors and their children when they need us most,” said Amber Oldfield, Development Director at WAVI. “Community support makes it possible for us to provide safety, healing, and hope.”
WAVI has served the region for more than four decades, working to create a community free of domestic violence and sexual abuse through direct services, prevention education, and outreach. As victim service organizations nationwide face funding challenges, WAVI says community driven events like the Beach Ball Gala are essential to keeping doors open and services available.
This year’s gala will feature opportunities for attendees to support WAVI through sponsorships, auction participation, and direct contributions. Sponsorship packages include recognition throughout the evening and help offset the costs of shelter operations, crisis response, and survivor support programs.
Tickets and sponsorship information are available at www.wavi.org/events. Ticket sales close April 1, 2026.
