Covid-19 cases still on the rise

The World Health Organization reported the largest COVID-19 case increase in a single day over the weekend. The increase was nearly 200,000 cases globally in 24 hours.

More states are reporting jumps in cases since re-opening measures have been relaxing. City Council in Rapid City has recently voted to retract its business restrictions last week in an 8-2 vote. South Dakota has not placed any mandatory prevention measures state wide.

Pennington County is now close to 500 cases of the virus. Both Oglala Lakota County and Todd County have exceeded 50 cases of COVID-19 which places them in the largest bracket of cases provided by the South Dakota Department of Health. Only 10 other counties in the state are in that bracket.

Donald Trump has continued his campaign trail with large rallies in major cities. Masks are not required to attend the rallies, but attendees must sign a waiver in case the virus in contracted. He was badly disappointed when only 6,200 people showed up for his Tulsa rally when he had it in a stadium that seated 19,000. e wH

Trump has also confirmed his attendance to the July 3 firework display at Mount Rushmore National Monument. Qualified fire officials have advised against holding it when the fire danger is so high. The event will have 7,500 attendants.
