LAPWAI, Idaho – The Nez Perce Tribe (Tribe) closed on the purchase of 358 acres of land adjacent to the Clearwater River Casino & Lodge. The property consists of agricultural, range and some development land and sits to the north and east of the Tribe’s property on Highway 95.

“The completion of this purchase will allow us to continue moving forward in our economic growth and provide opportunities for possible future development that will complement our existing enterprises,” said Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee Chairman, Samuel Penney.

Though plans for the property have not yet been drafted, the Tribe plans to immediately begin clean up and archeological surveying of the site. The purchase will also provide additional space for the construction of the highway interchange project that is scheduled to begin in the near future. The interchange project will provide safer and more efficient transportation in this area.

“This purchase is exciting for many reasons, one being the location and cultural aspects of this property but also the positive impact this will bring to the surrounding region. The Tribe looks forward to sharing development plans in the near future,” commented Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee Land Enterprise Commission Chair, Shannon Wheeler.
