Pennington County Treasurer’s Office on license renewal

RAPID CITY – Starting Thursday April 22, 2021, access to the DMV Now License Renewal kiosk located within the main entrance of the Pennington County Administration Building is once again available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Installation is complete and a new larger machine is ready to serve the citizens at their convenience.

As a reminder, a second DMV Now License Renewal Self-Service Kiosk is located within the Rushmore Mall and is available during regular mall business hours.

The DMV Now License Renewal Kiosk is a fully automated motor vehicle registration renewal station which dispenses license renewal tags on the spot. Vehicle owners from any county in South Dakota can use the terminal with the proper identification.

A vehicle owner can navigate through the easy touch screen (voice assistance available) with a valid South Dakota driver’s license, South Dakota identification card, or if a company, the information provided on their state issued courtesy renewal notice. Once the payment has been submitted and the transaction is completed, the decals and vehicle registration card are dispensed directly from the machine. Acceptable forms of payment include electronic check and credit/debit cards (Discover, MasterCard and Visa only). There is a processing fee of $1.50 for recheck or 2.25% for a debit or credit card. Cash is not accepted. You can renew your registration as early as 90 days prior and 9 months after the vehicle’s renewal expiration date.

In addition to the self-service terminals, the regular options of renewing through the county are by mail, in person, over the phone or through the state online service at www.SDcars.org.
