Esther Wolfe, 25, who survived not only the death of her boyfriend in 2019 but also a brutal kidnapping the same year, was gunned down execution style just off East North Street and Spring Street in Rapid City.

According to Facebook posts, she was fatally gunned down on the birthday of her boyfriend, Michael Mayweather, who lost his life to a gunshot wound in 2019.

According to the Rapid City Police Department, they responded to a report of gunshots just before 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 21.

While officers were on the way, they were told someone had been shot. When they arrived, they found 25-year-old Esther Wolfe, of Rapid City, with critical injuries. An ambulance took Wolfe to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

On Monday, a man accused of being involved in the fatal shooting of Esther Wolfe made his initial appearance in court.

Ezekiel Mayweather, 24, was charged with aiding and abetting a first-degree murder in the death of Esther Wolfe and a $500,000 cash only bail has been set.

The police department reported they were still seeking the primary suspect in the homicide case and stated they are dedicated to identifying and apprehending all individuals involved.

Police also released a video of the alleged suspect fleeing the scene of the shooting. Police asked anyone who recognized the individual in the video or their clothing description to contact police at the non-emergency dispatch number, 605-394-4131. An anonymous tip can also be submitted by texting the letters ‘RCPD’ and the information to 847411.

“This is a cowardly and senseless act of violence that has needlessly cost the life of a young member of our community,” Rapid City Police Chief Don Hedrick said in a statement. “This investigation and resolution of this case remains the top priority of the RCPD’s Criminal Investigation Division, and we are allocating all available and appropriate resources to finding all parties who were involved in this shooting and bringing them to justice. We will not normalize acts of violence like this in our community.”

Anyone with information about the incident can contact police at 605-394-4131. An anonymous tip can also be submitted by texting the letters ‘RCPD’ and the information to 847411.
