West charged with the murder of three

Elijah West, 24 years old, has been charged in the deaths of three people on Pine Ridge Reservations on Friday, April 15th. According to records, the deaths involved Jamie Graham, 38, Alma Garneaux, 38 and Michael White Plume, 39, near Wounded Knee on January 5th. Appearing in federal court Friday, he was also charged with Discharge of a Firearm during a crime of Violence, and Possession of Ammunition by a Prohibited Person. Currently, he is being held in the Pennington County Jail.

Previously, West was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, and the original charge of knowing possessing ammunition was due to an existing prior felony conviction. Originally noted, he pleaded not guilty to the charged, and as well the firearm charges would have a minimum 10 year sentence, while the ammunition charges would be a maximum of 3 years. The Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety had put out a notice through social media identifying West as a person of interest in the case, he was brought into custody the same day on unrelated charges, in early January.

Currently, he is being held without bail at the Pennington County Jail, since his arrest, as due to a Major Crime occurring, defined by the Major Crimes Act and in federal court, on the Pine Ridge Reservation. West’s trial, is slated for June 21st at 9am.
