We prefer to hire news writers from the pool of local social service case workers using a particular branch of United Resource Connection. Our preference is based on our understanding that these individuals have more “boots on the ground” knowledge of real time changes in application protocols and service availability — the social service news most relevant to our subscribers. We pay our writers $100-$300 per published news story. The range is based on how much research and editing was required to publish the story. We offer a free writers’ workshop to help social service case workers understand our publishing requirements and better partner with us for a mutually beneficial arrangement. We prefer to have writers intern with us, voluntarily providing 3 (unpaid) news stories prior to contracting as an official paid writer for us. We are willing to make exceptions about the internship for experienced writers. Please contact us if you are interested in writing for our social service news broadcast.
