Get Help Selecting a 2025 Marketplace Medical Plan During Open Enrollment
The Health Insurance Marketplace’s open enrollment period for 2025 is November 1, 2024 to January 15, 2025. Open enrollment is a specific period of time each year when individuals can sign up for, change, or cancel their health insurance plan, add or remove dependents, or change coverage levels, whether it’s through their employer, Medicare, or the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace. Essentially, it’s the only time during the year when you can make significant adjustments to your health insurance coverage.
After the open enrollment period, you can only enroll in or change plans if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, such as if 1) Your child is aging off CHIP; 2) You are getting married or divorced; 3) You are moving to a new home; 4) You are having a baby; 5) You are losing your Medicaid or CHIP that you have had since March 31, 2023; or 6) Because you are no longer eligible for Medicaid due to a change in your household income. In these instances individuals can request a Special Enrollment period by either logging in to their HealthCare.gov account online, or by contacting the Marketplace Call Center at 1 (800) 318-2596.
Otherwise if one misses the open enrollment period, they may have to wait until the next year to make changes to their health insurance.
Enrollment dates effect when insurance coverage starts.
Enrollment by December 15th: Coverage starts on January 1, 2025. Enrollment after December 15th: Coverage starts on February 1, 2025
